In Greek mythology, a young girl by the name of Clytie fell in love with the sun god Apollo. As young girls who love from afar may do, Clytie spent her days watching Apollo's chariot move across the sky. She was so smitten she did nothing else, so in nine days, she was transformed into a sunflower.
